Fire Kills – The dangers of cheap Christmas lighting

It’s that time of year again when we are all eagerly awaiting getting the Christmas decorations out the loft and decorating our homes in pretty sparkling lights, but it is important to remember the dangers that can arise, it is essential to resist the lure of cheap or second-hand Christmas lights because of the electrical dangers they can pose. If something seems too good to be true it usually is!

Cheap lights bought from a market or the Internet could appear to be a bargain but they are just not worth the risk. When you buy these lights it is not guaranteed that they meet the UK wiring standards and could easily pose a fire risk.

It is also really important to ensure you use them strictly in accordance with the individual manufacturers’ instructions.

People also need to be wary about buying lights over the Internet from other countries as they often have different electrical systems and safety standards that do not meet our requirements which if used, could invalidate your insurance.

There have been some  videos on the internet showing how quickly a fire can spread which is truly shocking.

A house fire, most likely sparked by faulty Christmas tree lights, envelopes a living room in a shocking 46 seconds.

Fire Kills wants everyone to enjoy their Christmas.
