Powercor was contracted by Apex Car Rental to install a range of Philips LED luminaires to replace the existing metal halide and fluorescent fittings at their Brooklands facility. This in turn has reduced their annual energy costs and carbon footprint.

Apex Car Rental has a hire fleet of over 3,000 vehicles, which are available on short or long-term rental from its head office in Eastbourne and the more recently acquired site at Brooklands, near Weybridge.

The existing lighting luminaires were old and inefficient and many of the lamps were redundant internally as well as externally. It was clear that if Powercor changed the existing installation to the latest, more cost effective LED technology solutions then there were great advantages to be gained by our client.

We changed all the luminaires that were installed in the offices, workshops, spray booths, valet areas and petrol station, as well as the entire external wall mounted and column mounted luminaires.

Not only have we reduced the annual running costs and the carbon emissions but also the annual maintenance costs associated with replacing lamps due to the long life of the LED light source. This is predicted to be around £1,700 per annum, another benefit to using LED technology.

We also installed the Occuswitch Automatic Movement Detector to control the lighting in relation to occupancy. The occupancy control ensures that that the lighting is switched off when it’s not required but comes back on immediately when someone moves into that area again, another cost saving technology that has been greatly received.
