PROJECT:

Liberty London, Regent Street

Powercor installs 11kV transformer and distribution centre in the world-renowned Liberty London department store

Liberty’s is a luxury department store located on Great Marlborough Street in the West End of London. The building stretches from Carnaby Street to Kingly Street, where it forms a three storey archway over the Northern entrance to the Kingly Street. Liberty is famous for its strong relationship with art and culture, and is well-known for its bold and floral print fabrics. The mock-Tudor retail unit is six stories and also sells men’s, women’s and children’s fashion, beauty and homewares from a mix of high-end and emerging brands and labels. The building is now a heritage grade II-listed London icon.

OUR APPROACH AND IMPACT

Liberty London is incorporated into two buildings, Lasenby House and Tudor Building. Due to the lease agreement, Liberty London (Tudor Building) had to migrate from the existing electricity supply situated in Lasenby House. This in turn would allow Lasenby House to use the full capacity of their existing service and enable Tudor Building to be self sufficient.

The installation of an 11kV Sub-station, 1000kVA Cast Resin Transformer, 1600amp Main LV switch panel, all the earthing arrangements and de-commissioning of existing panels were to be undertaken by Powercor whilst the department store was closed for trading.

Powercor worked in conjunction with haydengreen, SSE Contracting, UK Power Networks, the consultants and the management at Liberty London to ensure that a feasibility study was carried out to understand what Liberty’s actual power consumption was and that the proposed installation would meet their future development plans.

When the specification was agreed, Powercor’s team of engineers prepared several previously unused rooms to maximise space for the installation of the sub-station as well as the transformer and main LV panel.

A ladder rack and cable tray were installed for containment and when all of the preparation work was completed and the Transformer and panels delivered, a shutdown over four nights was arranged so that we could migrate the existing and new supplies into the relevant distribution panels.

The whole installation was tested and inspected to all of the current IET Wiring Regulations and the rooms and installation was handed back to Liberty London with minimal disruption and to the highest standard of workmanship.

Discreet installation

Complete reorganisation of electricity supplies to enable Tudor Building to operate with its own energy supply

Future Proofed

Installation that was fully assessed to ensure the building’s future energy needs would be covered

Expedited delivery

The four-day installation was delivered on time and with minimal disruption

Regulatory compliance

All regulatory paper work completed and supplied to the client following completion of the job

I didn’t think that a contract like this could run as efficiently as it has, this is all thanks to haydengreen and Powercor for their perseverance and expertise, and I would highly recommend them to anybody.
